Can we use non-invasive parameters to predict the development of gastroesophageal varices in cirrhotic patients with and without portal vein thrombosis? An observational study from the western region of Saudi Arabia

Abstract Background The prevention of portal hypertensive complications, including upper gastrointestinal bleeding, is critically important and achieved only through the use endoscopy for management oesophageal gastric varices (EGVs). There a paucity data limited utilization non-invasive predictive parameters to guide selection patients who may benefit from endoscopic surveillance, especially in cirrhotic with coexistent vein thrombosis. Results study was conducted eight hospitals western region Saudi Arabia over period 2015–2017. Among 1349 chronic liver disease patients, eighty-five complete findings were included study.
